Mid-Century Collection of the Late Pauline Rallis, State College, To Be Sold in Cordier’s Fall Antique and Fine Art Auction

November 5, 2016

The estate collection of Pauline Rallis of State College, Pennsylvania, will be offered for sale on November 12 and 13 in Cordier’s Fall Antique and Fine Art Auction in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The striking mid-century modern furniture decorated the late Pauline Rallis’ home on Fairwood Lane in State College. Anthony S. Pierce, a New Jersey-based architect and then-recent graduate of Penn State University, advised her as she built her collection throughout the early 1970’s.

In bright colors and bold modern designs, Mid-Century Modern furniture has recently surged in popularity among collectors. Items from Rallis’ estate include highly sought-after Bertoia diamond chairs, Saarinen tulip chairs and tables, an Eames lounge chair and ottoman, and Bill Stephens bentwood chairs.

Rallis was a Pennsylvania native who moved to State College in 1954, where she met her husband, Christos Rallis. The two ran the restaurant “Christies” together until it closed in the late 1950’s, after which time she began a long career in real estate. She retired from the Sidney Friedman Real Estate Group in 2009, after 44 years in the industry.
