A monumental American brilliant cut glass vase sold for $23,000 at Cordier Auction & Appraisals’ Fall Two Day Antique & Fine Art Auction on November 8 and 9, 2014. Other highlights included the sculpture Clarissa by William Zorach (American, 1887-1966) which sold for $9,100 and a painting by Albert Francis King (American, 1854-1945) which sold for $7,500. The 1,003 lot auction was held at Cordier’s auction house located at 1500 Paxton Street in Harrisburg.

Halbert HO Train Collection Sold by Cordier Auctions for Over $500,000

Cordier Auctions sold the lifetime HO model train collection of Dr. David R. Halbert of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for a total of $561,131. Consisting of 1,400 lots, the collection was sold across three sessions in 2014. The auctions were held at Cordier’s auction house located at 1500 Paxton Street in Harrisburg. Highlights include a United Scale Abernethy Lougheed locomotive & tender that sold for $3,220 and a W&R/Samhongsa Union Pacific Version 2 brass locomotive & tender that hammered down at $2,300. Prices quoted include a 15% buyer’s premium.

An oil painting by Edouard Leon Cortes and a comic strip by Charles Schulz each sold for $27,000, a signed Kentucky rifle brought $4,100, and a 5.13 CTW brooch in an unusual form brought $7,000 at Cordier Auction & Appraisals’ Summer Two Day Firearm & Militaria and Antique & Fine Art Auction on August 23 and 24. The 1,048 lot auction was held at the company’s auction house located at 1500 Paxton Street in Harrisburg. The Multi-Consigner sale featured items from more than 150 consigners.

A photo album of images of The Opium War hammered down at $410,000 while a pair of famille verte 100 deer vases realized $60,000 at Cordier Auction & Appraisals’ Spring Two Day Antique and Fine Art Auction on May 17 and 18. Other highlights included an Albrecht Durer engraving ($17,000), a large Venetian blackamoor ($5,000) and a 2.61 ctw diamond and platinum ring ($7,500). The 861 lot auction was held at the company’s auction house located at 1500 Paxton Street in Harrisburg. The Multi-Consigner sale featured items from more than 150 consigners.

Cordier Auctions Sells Rare 1860 Photo Album of China for $410,000

April 19, 2014
Cordier Auctions sold a rare 1860 photo album of China in its Spring Antique & Fine Art Auction in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on May 17 & 18. The photo album contains 56 images of China during the Second Opium War in 1860, which are considered some of the earliest photos of that country. Felice Beato, an Italian/British photographer, was also one of the first war photographers. The photo album consists of 56 albumen prints including 10 multiple part panoramas, each titled and dated in English and German. Beato accompanied the British Army into China in 1860.

Cordier Auctions & Appraisals is happy to announce that Erika Cordier was granted her Pennsylvania auctioneer’s license in March. A graduate of HACC – Central Pennsylvania’s Community College’s Fall 2013 Auctioneering program, Erika joins her father David Cordier as well as Ed Rowe and Ellen Miller as staff auctioneers at Cordier Auctions. Ms. Cordier joined the company full time in 2010 and is the Director of Administration.
